Kongur

Kongur

 

a mountain massif and the highest peak (7,579 m) of the Kongur Muz Tagh Range in the western Kunlun Mountains in China. Composed predominantly of gneisses and granites, it is dissected by deep gorges. Glaciers descend to 3,800 m on the northern slopes and to 4,500 m on the southern slopes. There are numerous traces of ancient glaciation. The slopes are mainly bare, but in the lower belt there is shrubby vegetation growing along the gorges.
