Konon Lisenko
Lisenko, Konon Ivanovich
Born Jan. 16 (28), 1836; died July 16 (29), 1903, in Kursk (buried in St. Petersburg). Russian chemical engineer.
Lisenko graduated from the Institute of the Corps of Mining Engineers in St. Petersburg in 1856. From 1867 to 1891 he was a professor in the subdepartment of chemistry at the St. Petersburg Institute of Mines (1867–91). His studies were devoted to the petroleum industry and petrochemistry, as well as the classification of varieties of coal indigenous to Russia, soda manufacture, and the study of ores, salt beds, and other deposits. He was the editor of Gornyi zhurnal (Mining Journal) from 1877 to 1888.
