Lower Moravian Lowland

a low-lying plain in Czechoslovakia, along the lower reaches of the Morava River (a left tributary of the Danube), in the southwestern part of the Western Carpathians. The lowland lies in a tectonic depression separating the White and Little Carpathians from the outer ranges of the Moravian Carpathians. Its elevation ranges from 150 to 250 m. The flat and terraced surface is composed of river alluvium with sandy hills in places. The soils are chernozems and brown pseudopodzols (on sand). Wheat, sugar beets, and grapes are raised. Small oak and mixed pine-oak woods occur in places. Floodplain meadows and forests grow along the bottoms of river valleys. The chief city is Hodonín.
