Leveling Reservoir
Leveling Reservoir
at a hydroelectric power plant, a storage reservoir located at the end of a pressured diversion, ahead of the turbine penstocks. A leveling reservoir is usually built in the form of a cylinder with an open top. The leveling reservoir of a hydroelectric power plant facilitates the regulation of the power output of the hydraulic turbines and protects the diversion against the water hammer that occurs when the guiding device is suddenly closed in the event of a load drop or as a result of an emergency.
