Konstantin Dushenov

Born July 28 (Aug. 9), 1895, in the village of Ivanovskoe, in present-day Vologda Oblast; died Feb. 3, 1940. Soviet naval officer, flag officer first class (1936). Became a member of the CPSU in 1919.

Dushenov joined the navy in 1915. He served on the cruiser Aurora and was a member of the ship committee in 1917. After participating in the October armed uprising and in the storm of the Winter Palace, he was in charge of protecting the treasures of the palace and of the Hermitage. During the Civil War, Dushenov served in the administrative offices of the Volga-Caspian Flotilla and of the Astrakhan’ and Saratov ports. From 1920 to 1924 he was the commander of the naval ports of Sevastopol’ and of the Caspian. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1928 and commanded the training ship Komsomolets. Appointed chief of the Naval Academy in 1930, Dushenov was chief of staff of the Black Sea Fleet from 1930 to 1935. From March 1935 to May 1938 he was commander of the Northern Military Flotilla, which became the Northern Fleet in May 1937. Dushenov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of the Red Star.
