Konstantin Vasilevich Ukhanov

Born 1891 in Kazan; died Oct. 26, 1937. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the Communist Party from 1907.

The son of a stevedore, Ukhanov became a worker in 1906. He carried out party assignments in Nizhny Novgorod Province and in Ivanovo-Voznesensk, Voronezh, Kostroma, and St. Petersburg. In 1915 he obtained a position at the Dinamo Moscow Plant. He was arrested and exiled several times. After the February Revolution of 1917, Ukhanov became a deputy to the Moscow soviet and a member of its presidium. Subsequently, he was chosen chairman of the administrative board of Simonovskii District in Moscow. During the October Armed Uprising, he was a member of the Simonovskii military revolutionary committee. He became chairman of the Rogozhko-Simonovskii District soviet in 1918. In 1921 he became director of the Dinamo Plant, served as a delegate to the Tenth Congress of the RCP(B), and participated in the suppression of the Kronstadt Anti-Soviet Rebellion.

From 1922 to 1926, Ukhanov served as chairman of the administrative board of the Electrotechnical Trust. He was chairman of the executive committee of the Moscow soviet in 1926 and 1927 and of the Moscow oblast executive committee from 1929 to 1932. From 1932 to 1934, Ukhanov was deputy people’s commissar for supply of the USSR. In 1934 he became people’s commissar for local industry of the RSFSR; he was later appointed people’s commissar for light industry of the RSFSR.

Ukhanov became a member of the Central Committee of the ACP(B) in 1923. He served as a member of the presidiums of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR. Ukhanov was awarded the Order of Lenin.
