Lev Iashin

Iashin, Lev Ivanovich

 

Born Oct. 22, 1929, in Moscow. Soviet athlete and coach. Honored Master of Sport (1957). Colonel. Member of the CPSU since 1957.

Iashin graduated from the Higher Correspondence Party School of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1972. In the 1950’s and 1960’s he was one of the best goalkeepers in Soviet and world soccer. He was champion of the USSR five times between 1954 and 1963, winning the USSR Cup in 1953, 1967, and 1970 as a member of the Moscow Dynamo team. He was Olympic champion in 1956, winner of the European Cup in 1960, and bronze medalist at the 1966 world championship as a member of the Soviet team.

Iashin has been awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and several medals.
