Facilities:146 campsites with utility hookups, camp store, and 3 central servicebuildings with an activities room, showers, restrooms, and laundryfacilities; group camping area with cabins, bathhouse, and clubhouse;picnic areas, 4 picnic shelters, playgrounds, hiking trails thatinclude original portions of Wilderness Road and Boone's Trace (8.5miles), horseshoe pits, volleyball and basketball courts, 18-holeminiature golf course, swimming pool with waterslides, museum, historicsites, 1,500-seat amphitheater.
Activities:Camping, swimming, hiking, basketball, volleyball, recreational and interpretive programs (seasonal).
Special Features:Two historic trails at the park, Wilderness Road and Boone's Trace,were the throughways used by more than 200,000 settlers who movedfrom the eastern colonies into the western frontier between 1774 and1796. Kentucky's worst Indian massacre, McNitt's Defeat, took placehere in 1786, and the Defeated Camp Pioneer Burial Ground is among thepark's historic sites. Other sites include McHargue's Mill and the Mountain Life Museum, which brings visitors into a pioneer settlement.
