Levine, Lena

(1903–65) psychiatrist, gynecologist; born in New York City. An early advocate in the 1920s and 1930s of family planning, she promoted sex education, egalitarian marriages, and contraception. A Freudian from the early 1940s, she counseled women in New York City and wrote widely on such subjects as menopause, frigidity, and sexual relations in marriage.
