Melanocratic Rocks

igneous rocks in which the quantity of dark-colored minerals (those rich in iron and magnesium; for example, pyroxene, amphibole, and biotite) is greater than in the normal average type of the given rock. Melanocratic rocks are contrasted with leucocratic rocks, which are poor in dark-colored minerals.
