monocyte chemoattractant protein-1

mon·o·cyte che·mo·at·trac·tant pro·tein-1 (MCP-1),

secreted by endothelial cells of a blood vessel wall; it induces extravasation of monocytes.

CCL2

A gene on chromosome 17q11.2-q21.1 that encodes a protein structurally related to the CXC subfamily of cytokines, which are characterised by two cysteines separated by a single amino acid. CCL2 is chemotactic for monocytes and basophils, but not neutrophils or eosinophils; it binds to chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR4.
Molecular pathology
Altered expression of CCL2 has been linked to diseases characterised by monocytic infiltrates—e.g., psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis.
