Lev Sergeevich Popyrin

Popyrin, Lev Sergeevich

Born Oct. 20, 1928, in Ivanovo. Specialist in complex power engineering. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1974). Member of the CPSU since 1950.

After graduating from the Ivanovo Power Engineering Institute in 1950, Popyrin worked at a series of industrial enterprises. In 1968 he became head of a laboratory for modeling heat-generating systems at the Siberian Power Engineering Institute of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He taught at the Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute from 1969 to 1974, becoming a professor in 1971. His main works deal with the theoretical principles of constructing mathematical models of various types of thermal power installations for complex design studies and with the methodological principles of using nonlinear mathematical programming and computers to solve problems of optimizing thermal power installations.

Popyrin has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
