Forest's Rocky Mountain Division includes rugged mountain peaks that often have snow for 10 months of the year; the Jefferson Division comprises six distinct mountain ranges. A segment of the 3,100-mile Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passes through the forest (see separate entry in national trails section).
