Korsak, Aleksandr Kazimirovich

Born Oct. 24 (Nov. 5), 1832, at Kainsk, now Kuibyshev, in Novosibirsk Oblast; died Mar. 1 (13), 1874, in St. Petersburg (?). Russian economist, historian, and publicist.

Korsak was a representative of the school of bourgeois economism in historiography, a tendency reflected in his choice of subjects. Among his works was the book The Forms of Industry in General and the Significance of Domestic Industry (Handi-crafts and Cottage Industry) in Western Europe and Russia (1861). V. I. Lenin placed a high value on the scholarly contribution of this study in his Development of Capitalism in Russia (see Lenin’s Poln. sobr. soch. , 5th ed., vol. 3, p. 745, index of names).
