Melenki

 

a city (since 1778) and the center of Melenki Raion, Vladimir Oblast, RSFSR. It is located on the Unzha River (a tributary of the Oka), on the Murom-Tambov highway, 22 km south of the Butylitsy railroad station (on the Murom-Kurovskaia line). Population, 19,000 (1970). Melenki’s industries include a flax combine, a foundry and machinery plant, and a logging and timber distribution establishment. Peat is cut in the city.
