Nansen Passports

temporary identification cards that replaced passports for stateless persons and refugees. They were introduced by the League of Nations on the initiative of F. Nansen, after whom they were named. Issued on the basis of the Geneva Agreements of 1922, the passports were valid until the bearer acquired new citizenship. Persons possessing Nansen passports could be admitted to any country that had signed the Geneva Agreements.
