Margeride

 

a plateau in France, in the southeastern part of the Massif Central. Elevation, to 1,554 m (Mount Randon). It is composed of crystalline rocks overlain by lavas. The surface of the top is plateau-like; the slopes are steep, particularly in the east. Mountain meadows and shrubbery are the main types of vegetation, and there are small areas of broad-leaved forest. Sheep are raised.
