Marginal Oceanic Swells

Marginal Oceanic Swells

underwater elevations in the marginal parts of the ocean floor, extending along deep-sea trenches. They are up to 1,500–2,000 km long and several hundred km wide. The relief is characterized by weak dissection and occasional submarine mountains. The marginal oceanic swells are elongated archlike uplifts of oceanic crust, which reaches a thickness of 8–15 km in these places, for example, the Zenkevich Swell on the ocean side of the Kurile-Kamchatka deep-sea trench.
