Nestor Buinitskii

Buinitskii, Nestor Aloizievich

 

Born Jan. 23 (Feb. 4), 1863; died Dec. 4 (17), 1914, in St. Petersburg. Russian military engineer; lieutenant general.

Buinitskii graduated from the Nikolai Engineering School in 1884 and the Nikolai Engineering Academy in 1889, where he began teaching in 1893. In 1909 he became a permanent member of the Engineering Committee of the Central Engineering Directorate. He worked on the Fortifications Directorate of the General Staff until World War I and helped in the construction of Fortress Osovets. He made a large contribution to the development of Russian military engineering; in particular, he was an advocate of group arrangements of forts incorporating the use of turret mounts and armored enclosures.
