Established: December 4, 2002. Description:Following three interbraided trail routes across the deserts of the Southwest, Mexican trade caravans conducted commerce between Santa Fe and Los Angeles from 1829 to 1848. This commerce in mules, horses, woolens (and even Indian slaves) was generated by the city of Santa Fe that then served as a hub of international trade, linked east by the Santa Fe Trail and south by El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (both also now recognized as national historic trails; see separate entries for descriptions of each). Such trade created significant impact on the Mexican, Indian, and American populations of the Southwest. Part of the trail was also used by explorers, trappers, prospectors, and immigrants. The western sections of the trail became a Mormon road in 1847.
Legth: 2,500 miles.
