Kosambi, Damodar Dharmanand

 

Born July 31, 1907, near Goa; died 1966 in Bombay. Indian philologist and historian.

Kosambi was a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Bombay. In philology, he was one of the most prominent Sanskrit literature textologists; in history, he specialized in ancient Indian culture and social relationships. Kosambi’s works evince his attempts to apply the Marxist method to his interpretation of the history of India.
