Kosarev, Aleksandr Vasil’evich

 

Born Nov. 14, 1903, in Moscow; died Feb. 23, 1939. Active in the Communist youth movement. Became a member of the Russian Communist Youth League in 1918 and of the CPSU in 1919. The son of a worker.

As a youth of 15, Kosarev volunteered for the Red Army. He fought in the Civil War of 1918-20. After the war he was secretary of the Komsomol committees of the Bauman district in Moscow, of the Moscow-Narva district in Leningrad, and of Penza Province. In 1926 he was secretary of the Moscow committee of the Komsomol. In 1927 he was secretary of the Central Committee of the Komsomol; from March 1929 to 1939 he was general secretary of the Central Committee of the Komsomol. A delegate to the Thirteenth through Seventeenth Congresses of the party, he was elected a member of the Central Control Com-mission of the ACP (Bolshevik) at the Fifteenth Congress, a candidate member of the Central Committee of the ACP (B) at the Sixteenth, and a member of the Central Committee at the Seventeenth. He was a member of the Organization Bureau of the Central Committee of the ACP (B) and a member of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
