Kosminskii Kamen’

 

the westernmost part of Timan Ridge, extending from Cheshskaia Bay to the sources of the Mezenskaia Pizhma and Pizhma (Pechorskaia) rivers in Arkhangel’sk Oblast and the Komi ASSR. Length, approximately 300 km. Sometimes the name is also understood to include Chetlasskii Kamen’, south of the Mezenskaia Pizhma. The ridge reaches a maximum altitude of 330 m near the sources of the Tsil’ma River. It is composed of sandstone and shale, with occasional outcroppings of porphyrite. Its gentle slopes are covered with forest tundra on the north and with taiga on the south.
