Arnaud, Antoine

Born 1831; died 1885. French revolutionary; member of the First International and the Paris Commune of 1871. Railroad employee.

Arnaud was close to the Blanquists. He participated in the Paris uprising of Oct. 31, 1870, against the capitulatory policy of the Government of National Defense. Arnaud was a member of the Central Committee of the National Guard. In the Paris Commune he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Committee of Public Works, and later, the Committee of Public Safety. He was one of the secretaries of the Commune. Arnaud participated actively in the organization of resistance to the counterrevolutionary troops of Thiers and in the struggle on the barricades. After the defeat of the Commune, Arnaud emigrated to Belgium, then Great Britain. He returned to France after the amnesty of 1880.
