Milutinovic, Sima Sarajlija

Born Oct. 3, 1791, in Sarajevo; died Dec. 30, 1847, in Belgrade. Serbian writer and historian. Representative of early romanticism.

Milutinović was the son of a merchant. He was active in the Serbian national liberation movement of the early 19th century. Milutinovič’s lyric poetry and his patriotic narrative poem The Serbian Woman (1826), which extolled the Serbian uprising of 1804–13, had strong ties with folklore.

Milutinović was one of the first Serbian dramatists and the author of the historical dramas Montenegrin Pride (1835) and The Obilic Tragedy (1837). He also wrote historical works, including The History of Serbia From the Beginning of 1813 to the End of 1815 (1827).
