Melkoe

 

(Khorgy-Kiuel’), a lake in the Taimyr (Dolgan-Nenets) National Okrug, Krasnoiarsk Krai, RSFSR. Situated in a broad depression between the western spurs of the Putorama Plateau. Area, 270 sq km. Average depth, 3.9 m; maximum depth, 22 m. Lake Melkoe is fed by snow and rain. The range of fluctuation in the water level is approximately 4.7 m, with higher fluctuations in July and lower fluctuations in April. The lake freezes in October and thaws in late June. The Norilka River has its source in the lake. The Lama Strait, which is 18 km long, connects Lake Melkoe with Lake Lama (Lamochen).
