Mel’nikov, Vladimir Andreevich

 

Born Aug. 18, 1928, in the village of Veniukovo, Moscow Oblast. Soviet computer designer. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1954.

Mel’nikov graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1951. In 1971 he became a professor at the Moscow Physicotechnical Institute. His main works deal with the design of BESM and other series of computers and the introduction of such computers in industry.

Mel’nikov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1969. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
