Kostiuk, Grigorii Silovich

 

Born Nov. 23 (Dec. 5), 1899, in the village of Mogil’no, in present-day Gaivoron Raion, Kirovograd Oblast. Soviet psychologist; active member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR (1967).

Kostiuk became a professor at the Kiev Pedagogical Institute in 1935 and director of the Ukrainian Psychology Research Institute in 1945. His principal works deal with the psychology of thought; the learning of concepts; the relations between schooling, upbringing, the development of the child’s personality, and the child’s abilities; and the history of psychology. Kostiuk has been awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and several medals.
