Kostka Napierski Rebellion of 1651

a peasant uprising in the Polish Commonwealth, led by the nobleman A. L. Kostka Napierski, whose real surname was Bzowski. It began in June in Podhale (a region in the foothills of the Carpathians), inspired by the example of the Ukrainian War of Liberation (1648–54). On June 14 the peasants captured Czorsztyn castle in Krakow Wojewodztwo, which set off an uprising that quickly engulfed the entire region and spread beyond its borders. On June 24, however, an army assembled by the bishop of Krakow, P. Gembicki, recaptured Czorsztyn. Kostka Napierski and his closest followers, S. Marszalek (L^towski) and M. Radocki, were seized and executed. By early July the revolt had been fully suppressed.
