Kostopol

a city (since 1939), the administrative center of KostopoP Raion, Rovno Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, on the Zamchisko River (a tributary of the Pripiat’). A station on the Rovno-Sarny railroad line. Population, 17,600 (1970). The city is a center for the timber and wood-products industry. Enterprises include a house-building combine, plants producing carpentry tools, crushed basalt, and glass, and a furniture factory. There is also a medical school. The city was founded in the late 18th century.
