mimencode

mimencode

(Originally distributed as "mmencode"). A replacement foruuencode for use in electronic mail and news. Part ofMIME. uuencode uses characters that don"t translate wellacross all mail gateways (particularly those which convertbetween ASCII and EBCDIC). Also, different variants ofuuencode encode data in different and incompatible ways, withno standard. Finally, few uuencode variants work well in apipe. Mimencode implements the encodings which were definedfor MIME as uuencode replacements, and should beconsiderably more robust for e-mail use. Written by NathanielS.
