Kounradskii

an urban-type settlement in the Dzhezkazgan Oblast, Kazakh SSR, 14 km north of the city of Balkhash, with which it is connected by an electric railroad branch. Population, 8,000 (1970). It is the center of the Kounradskii deposit of copper-molybdenum ore, a source of raw materials for the Balkhash Mining and Metallurgical Combine.
