Kovačić, Ivan Goran

 

Born Mar. 21, 1913, in the village of Lukovdol, Gorski Kotar; died July 1943, in the village of Vrbnica, Bosnia. Croatian writer.

Kovačic became a partisan in December 1942. He began publishing his writings in 1929. He was a poet, prose writer, critic, and translator. His principal work is the narrative poem The Pit (published in 1945), which re-creates the heroic struggle against fascism. It has been translated into many European languages.
