Koval’skii, Ivan Martynovich
Born 1850; died Aug. 2 (14), 1878. Russian revolutionary, a Narodnik (Populist). The son of a priest.
Koval’skii was born in the village of Sobolevka, Podol’sk Province. He participated in the Going to the People movement. Koval’skii organized a revolutionary circle of Narodnik rebels in Odessa at the end of 1876 and helped draw up and publish the appeal The Voice of Honest People, in 1877. He and his comrades fought an unsuccessful pitched battle to avoid arrest in Odessa in January 1878, after which Koval’skii was shot by sentence of the Odessa military district court.
