Mina, Francisco Javier, The Younger
Born in 1789 in Idocin; died Nov. 11, 1817, in Guanajuato, Mexico. Spanish bourgeois revolutionary, nephew of Mina the Elder.
Mina took part in the Spanish people’s struggle against French invaders during 1808–10. Taken prisoner in 1810 by the French and held until 1814, he returned to Spain to begin a struggle to restore the Cadiz Constitution of 1812. After joining with Mina the Elder in an unsuccessful attempt to organize an armed revolt in Pamplona in 1814, he fled to France and from there to Great Britain. In 1817, Mina set out for Mexico to join in the liberation struggle against Spanish colonial rule. In November 1817 he was seized by Spanish troops and shot.
