Minarik, Else Holmelund

(1920– ) writer; born in Denmark. Her family emigrated to the United States (1924), and she studied at Queens College and New Paltz College of the State University of New York. She worked as a reporter and teacher, then became known for her children's books, primarily the Little Bear (1957) series, illustrated by Maurice Sendak.
