North Albanian Alps

mountains on the Balkan Peninsula. The North Albanian Alps are approximately 100 km long and, at Mount Jezerce, reach an elevation of 2,692 m. They are composed primarily of limestones, dolomites, and shales. Karstic relief is common. The tributaries of the Drin River have deeply dissected the region. The North Albanian Alps have oak, beech, spruce, and pine forests, and above 1,700–1,800 m, mountain meadows. Snow remains in some areas the year round.
