Kramer, Hilton Kramer, Hilton(1928– ) art critic; born in Gloucester, Mass. He studied at Syracuse (B.A. 1950), the New School of Social Research (1950), Columbia University (1950–51), Harvard (1951), and Indiana University (1951–52). He was an art critic and editor for many periodicals, including Arts Magazine (1955–58) and the New York Times (1965–82), and he was the founder-editor of New Criterion (1982). Considered an important art journalist, he published many essays and books on 19th- and 20th-century artists. |
