Krasnograd

 

(until 1922, Konstantinograd), a city and center of Krasnograd Raion, Kharkov Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, on the right bank of the Berestovaia River (Dnieper basin), on the Moscow-Simferopol’ highway. Railroad junction; population, 19,500 (1972). Krasnograd has a meat-packing plant, a mill, a creamery, a fruit-canning factory, a corn-grading plant, a building-materials plant, and furniture and textile factories. Gas is extracted in the area. The city is the site of a technicum for the mechanization of agriculture, a medical school, and a museum of local lore. Krasnograd was founded in 1731.
