Krasnogvardeisk

a city (until 1973, a settlement) and center of Bulungurskii Raion, Samarkand Oblast, Uzbek SSR, on the Bulungur Canal (branch from Zeravshan). Railroad station (Krasnogvardeiskaia) on the Tashkent-Samarkand line, 32 km northeast of Samarkand; population, 13,700 (1972). The city has a wine combine, a winery, a dairy, a brickyard, and other enterprises. It is also the site of a people’s amateur theater.
