Krasnoufimsk

a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, on the right bank of the Ufa River (Kama basin). Railroad station on the Kazan-Sverdlovsk line, 223 km west of Sverdlovsk. Population, 38,000 (1970). Krasnoufimsk has a plant for the manufacture of spare parts for agricultural machines, a sawmill, a brewery, a dairy, an asphalt plant, furniture and garment factories, a building-materials combine, a meat-packing plant, and a vegetable-canning plant. It is the site of a sovkhoz technicum, a medical school, a pedagogical college, and a museum of local lore. Established as a fortress in 1736, Krasnoufimsk became a city in 1781.
