Krasnoznamensk

(until 1945, Lazdenen), a city, the administrative center of Krasnoznamensk Raion, Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the Shiashupe River (a tributary of the Niemen), 37 km north of the Nesterov railroad station (on the Vilnius-Kalinigrad line) and 168 km northeast of Kalinin-grad. Krasnoznamensk has a cheese-processing plant and a logging and timber-distribution establishment. The city was founded in 1734.
