Liapin

(Sygva, Khulga), a river in Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR; a left-bank tributary of the Severnaia Sos’va (in the Ob’ Basin).

The Liapin is formed by the confluence of the Khulga and Shchekur’ia rivers, which rise in the Polar Urals. Its length is 151 km (from the source of-the Khulga, its largest left-bank component, 404 km). Its basin covers an area of 27,300 sq km. The Liapin takes a meandering, southeasterly course along the western edge of the Western Siberian Lowland. It is fed by various sources (predominantly snow). The Liapin is in high water from May to September, and its average water flow is 345 cu m per sec. The Liapin freezes over in October and thaws in the second half of May. It is navigable for 149 of its 151 km.
