Ob Bay
Ob’ Bay
a bay of the Kara Sea along the Asian mainland between the Iamal and Gydanskii peninsulas. It is 800 km long and from 30 to 90 km wide, with prevailing depths of 10–12 m. The western coast is low-lying, and the eastern coast is high and steep. In the east Tazov Bay branches off from Ob’ Bay. The Ob’ River flows into Ob’ Bay, which is covered with ice most of the year. The bay’s semidiurnal tides are 0.7 m high, and its water level varies by as much as 2 m. The port of Novyi Port is situated on the bay’s western shore.
