Krivonos, Petr

Born June 29 (July 12), 1910, in Feodosiia, in Crimean Oblast. Soviet public figure in the area of railroad transportation; one of the initiators of the Stakhanovite movement, Hero of Socialist Labor (1943). Became a member of the CPSU in 1929.

In 1935, while working as a locomotive engineer, Krivonos was the first to increase boiler boosting of freight train locomotives, thus doubling the running speed. He had numerous followers (”Krivonosians”). He graduated from the F. E. Dzerzhinskii Electromechanical Institute for Railroad Transportation in Moscow (1953). In 1953, Krivonos became the chief administrator of the Southwest Railroad. He was a delegate to the Eighteenth Congress of the ACP (Bolshevik) and to the Twenty-second Congress of the CPSU. He was a deputy to the first through fifth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and was elected a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Ukraine at the 14th through 16th and 18th through 22nd congresses of the party. He was awarded four Orders of Lenin, six other orders, and medals.
