Krivosheev, Ilia Petrovich

(also Il’ka Morytsia). Born July 19 (31), 1898, on the farmstead of Maiak, now in Lopatinsk Raion, Penza Oblast; died Sept. 11, 1967, in the village of Ichalki, Mordovian ASSR. Soviet Mordovian poet.

Krivosheev graduated from the University of Saratov in 1927. His first collection of poems was published in 1923. As one of the founders of Soviet Mordovian literature, Krivosheev contributed enormously to the development of Mordovian prosody. His works include the collections Voice of the People (1943), My Way (1946), Spring Garden (1952), and My Country (1954) and the lyrical epic poems Lenin Among Us (1939) and Toward Victory (1963).
