Marinello y Vidaurreta, Zoilo

 

Born Aug. 21, 1919, in Santa Clara, Las Villas Province. Cuban physician and public and political figure.

Marinello took part in the struggle against the Batista regime. He is the brother of J. Marinello y Vidaurreta. Marinello graduated from the medical school of the University of Havana in 1943 and became a professor there in 1960. In 1967 he became director of the Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology. He has published works on oncology.

From 1973 to 1976, Marinello was the president of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. He has been chairman of the Council on Science and Technology since 1976. In 1976 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. He is a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976).
