Libice Nad Cidlinou
Libice Nad Cidlinou
one of the oldest Czech cities; a present-day settlement at the confluence of the Cidlina and the Labe (Elbe). It was originally the center of the Zličane principality in the ninth century. Materials uncovered by archaeological excavations (begun in the 19th century) testify to the high development of the material culture of Zličane in the ninth and tenth centuries. In 995, Libice was conquered by the Prague prince Boleslav II of the Přemyslovich family and became a part of the united Czech state.
