Founded in 1887, it was named for Paul KrugerKruger, Paul Krugersdorpa city in the Republic of South Africa, in the province of the Transvaal. Population, 100,500 (1968). A railroad junction. One of the centers of the gold and uranium mining industry and the principal center of the western Transvaal. The city has a chemical industry, which serves the mining industry; there is also light industry (including tanning plants). Krugersdorp is a tourist center.
