One of the centers of the gold and uranium mining industry and the principal center of the western Transvaal. The city has a chemical industry, which serves the mining industry; there is also light industry (including tanning plants). Krugersdorp is a tourist center. A technical college is located in the city. Krugersdorp was founded in 1887.
