Krum, Laws of

the first all-Bulgarian laws, issued in the ninth century by Khan Krum. They are known in a semilegendary presentation of a tenth-century Byzantine writer. The laws introduced the procedure of judicial inquest and established Severo punishment for theft. The laws reflected the feudalization then taking place in Bulgaria and strengthened the position of the ruling class.
